Black buck found dead

GUNSHOT SUSPECTED; WILDLIFE OFFICIALS RULE OUT POACHING.

In a third incident in a month in Abohar, a female black buck was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Rampura village on the AboharSangria road near the Rajasthan border on Saturday night.

Even as the protected animal was apparently hit by a gunshot, wildlife officials did not confirm it as a case of poaching saying post mortem would reveal the exact cause of death.

State Wildlife Board member Sanjeev Godara said he would urge Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and board chairman to arrange armed guards and patrolling vehicles to save black bucks and blue bulls from hunters.

Ferozepur DC Kamal Kishore Yadav said an inquiry into the death of two black bucks by wildlife officials found that no hunting took place in the sanctuary and that stray dogs killed the black bucks. "Stray dogs killed female black buck on Saturday night," the DC added.
