Due to pollution of water and over population of fish species, out of about 88 species of fish available in the Harike Pattan wetlands, only seven are adequate to human health.

This was stated by Prof M.S.

He said the role of fisheries in the evaluation of aquatic health of wetlands is very important.

Over 10 research papers would be presented during this seminar which will be attended by about 40 experts.

Dean, Academic Affairs of the University, Dr Raghbir Singh presided the event while Dr Rajiv Kalsi from MLN College, Yamunanagar, Haryana, was guest of honour.

Coordinator and Head of Department Dr Anish Dua said February 2 is observed as Wetland Day to educate the masses on their importance.
