The
companies Vedanta Resources and Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL)
have committed to planting more than 10 lakh trees on 700 acre around
the upcoming thermalenergy plant at Banawali village in Mansa
district.
The
measure will make the companies one of the most environment-friendly
corporate houses in Punjab. On Monday, the Mansa deputy commissioner
inaugurated the green drive in the presence of the Vedanta group
director, projects, M Siddiqi, employees and sarpanches Ajit Singh of
Banawali, Malkit Singh of Raipur, Ranjan Singh of Perron, and Harmel
Singh of Bheniwal village.
The
increased economic activity because of the thermalenergy project would
generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs in Punjab, the
companies have claimed. The success of the project will bolster the
government's initiative of public-private partnership in industrial
development.
TSPL
has committed to protecting and preserving the environment through its
technology and processes. The plant is being constructed with advanced
supercritical technology that will reduce the consumption of raw
material such as coal and water, and reduced the burden on natural
resources to be unlike traditional thermalenergy production
technologies.
The unit will have electrostatic precipitators and bag filters to
capture particulate matter, tall COMPANIES RESOLVE TO PLANT 10 LAKH
TREES AROUND UPCOMING THERMAL PLANT IN MANSA VILLAGE chimney for
better dispersion of pollutants, and zero discharge, in which the
wastewater generated will irrigate a green belt on the factory
premises.
Deputy commissioner Ravinder Singh on Monday thanked the TSPL team and
members of the local panchayat for their support in completing the
first stage of the project before schedule. “The tree-plantation
campaign will change this place from barren to green,“ said the DC.
“Environment protection is top priority for Vedanta,“ said Vedanta's
director of projects M Siddiqi. “Sustainable development is integral
to our business practices. Our larger objective is to preserve the
natural environment in and around our operations.“
TSPL,
a subsidiary of Satellite Energy, already has taken proactive measures
for protection of the environment, Siddiqi added.
