Hospital launches bio-medical waste management programme

In view of the growing menace of bio-medical waste, Government Rajindra Hospital has constituted a 17-member team headed by Dr Jatinder Kumar Kansal, an eye-specialist.

Medical superintendent Dr Manjit Kaur Mohi announced this at a seminar on 'bio-medical waste management' organised at the hospital here on Saturday.

The seminar, attended by 200 doctors and staff members, was meant to spread awareness about various aspects of biomedical waste. Expert Dr Jagbir Singh explained the ill effects of the waste in hospitals.

Dr Kansal with his team will regularly conduct inspections, training and reinforcement among doctors, staff and public at large. “It is the moral responsibility of the service provider, patients, staff and public at large to keep environment clean,“ said Dr Kansal. A Ludhiana-based MNC was present on the occasion, which will participate in the bio-medical waste management programme at the hospital.
