Seminar on Solid Waste Management

       Participation in the Seminar on “Solid Waste Management” by ENVIS Centre
An Environment awareness programme was organized by All India Women `s Conference Amritsar District, Punjab, at Amritsar  on 6th August , 2005. The theme of the programme was “ Solid Waste Management”. The programme   also included other activities like   the tree Plantation, Cleaning of surrounding and field visit to vermiculture plant for organic waste. The Programme was attended by many NGOs, eminent environmentalist, social workers and many girl students.

The state ENVIS centre has also participated very actively in this programme. Dr. Gurharminder Singh, (Programme officer ) of  ENVIS  Centre has  delivered a lecture on  solid waste management with special reference to  biomedical and  municipal waste in Punjab. He has distributed 60 copies of ENVIS newsletters each of Vol. 1. No. 4 and Vol. 2   No. 1 with topics on “ The Status of Biomedical Waste in Punjab: An overview” and “ Managing  Municipal Organic waste in Punjab” respectively. Around 150 environment awareness pamphlets ( English and Punjabi)  prepared by PSCST on World Environment Day, 2005 were also distributed among students.

Dr. Gurharminder   has also informed the participants   about the ENVIS Centre website, information available on it, its URL and email address for queries and suggestions.
